Instagram Tips from a Beginner to other Beginners

The following are some tips that I've learned while trying to set up an instagram for my furniture projects. Bear with me, I'm still learning too!

  • Try to post consistently -- ideally at least 1-2 times a day with content that is engaging for your followers and shows that you care about what your account promotes.

  • Hashtags are great to help give your posts visibility, but using too many can seem like spam.

  • Interact with your followers! Pose your own questions, post polls, comment on others’ posts, etc.

  • Look at the followers of accounts you like and explore which ones you like as well -- then add them!

  • See how other similar and successful accounts do things! You still want to be unique, but can learn from how others in the business have grown successful.

  • Try to keep your content focused -- if you’re running a business, make it about that. But also make it personal.

  • Take time to stage your photos. Good lighting goes a long way.

  • This might go without saying, but when someone clicks on and scrolls through your profile, it should be obvious what you're all about. This ties back to the tip of keeping content focused and avoiding purely personal content.

  • Take some time to observe when your followers and those you follow are most active so that you know the best times to post.

  • Get creative with instagram stories and reels!

More to come as I learn more and have more thoughts to share! What instagram tips do you have?

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Hello! My name is Janet and I have recently fallen in love with furniture refinishing. What started as something fun to try during the pandemic has turned into both a hobby and side business. I’m currently tackling projects that I can do in my apartment in my spare time, and selling locally to interested customers in the DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland area (DMV). My goal is upcycling furniture to give new life to old pieces, saving them from the landfill and protecting our planet one project at a time.

I know very little about blog-style writing, but I’m doing this as much for myself as I am for whomever ends up reading this. So here goes!
